There are all indications that the number of poor and vulnerable
persons who suffer visible and invisible violation of their rights is
escalating in Njeru Town Council. The probation, enforcement and other local
government departments are daily bombarded with countless complaints from
children, women and other marginalized persons. While some complaints are
settled, quite a number are too complex to handle by these offices.
Apparently hundreds of other victims of human rights violations suffer silently as they do not even attempt to seek redress. Limited knowledge and literacy skills are among the common impediments in less literate communities such as the greater part of Buikwe district. In October 2013, a 12-month pilot project titled Human Rights and Education Research Initiative was launched to understand and influence existing interventions. |
